Energy Vanguard First in US to Qualify House Plans for Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR, Version 3

Last week, Energy Vanguard received notification from the ENERGY STAR new homes team that the home plans we submitted had been approved for the Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR label. These plans are for a new home being built in the Grant Park Historic District in Atlanta, Georgia, and are the first in the US to qualify under the Version 3 guidelines of the ENERGY STAR new homes program.
Energy Vanguard's architect and Chief Design Officer, Chris Laumer-Giddens, designed the home and HVAC systems, completed the HVAC design sections of the ENERGY STAR Version 3 HVAC Contractor Checklist, and provided specifications and details necessary to meet the requirements of the Thermal Enclosure Rater Checklist and the
Water Management Builder Checklist. Upon reviewing the documentation, the ENERGY STAR team sent word that the plans had been approved.
"Version 3 of the ENERGY STAR homes program is getting a bad rap as being too hard," explained Laumer-Giddens, "but if home builders start with plans that have qualified for the Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR label, a lot of the hard stuff has already been taken care of, especially regarding the HVAC design, which is often a big stumbling block." Starting with Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR home plans makes the process easier for home builders, trade contractors, and home energy raters, and Energy Vanguard is proud to be one of the few companies in the country that can offer this service.
