Energy Vanguard Publishes White Paper on ENERGY STAR Version 3
About two years in the making, ENERGY STAR Version 3 is in the home stretch to adoption. Starting with homes permitted on or after 1 April 2011, the new guidelines begin the transition to being fully required by 1 January 2012. Home energy raters, home builders, HVAC contractors, and insulation contractors will find the new requirements challenging:
- Lower HERS Index with individual target for each home
- 4 checklists instead of 1
- Grade I installation of insulation
To help stakeholders get ready for the new guidelines, Energy Vanguard's president Allison A. Bailes III, PhD has written a 16 page white paper available as a free download on the Energy Vanguard website. In it you'll find a summary of the changes, explanation of some of the more difficult parts, and advice for stakeholders.
In addition to publishing the white paper, Energy Vanguard will also be offering training for home energy raters, HERS providers, builders, and trade contractors. The two day class for raters will be required for all raters who qualify homes for the ENERGY STAR label. The half-day class for home builders and trade contractors will help them understand the program better from the perspective of a HERS rating provider, who has the final say on whether a home qualifies or not. See our ENERGY STAR Training page for more info and to register for a class.
